Many people wonder whether it's duct tape or Duck tape—it's actually duct tape, with Duck being merely a brand name. However, keep in mind that duct tape is not ideal for sealing ducts; foil tape would serve better for that purpose.
This versatile tape has a vast range of uses, from temporary fixes to hanging Christmas lights or even crafting wallets. I've noticed considerable variances in quality and price when it comes to duct tapes, so I thought it might be helpful to provide a comparison. I've tested five notable brands of duct tape, including Gorilla clear repair tape, which shares many similar uses:

Gorilla tape measures 16 mil in thickness, making it over double the thickness of many other tapes; this one stands alone in quality. It tears cleanly and has a very grippy adhesive, providing strong performance. One downside is that its thickness can be a limitation for certain applications.
Comparatively, Duck Original is much thinner at only 6 mil, which makes it feel less substantial than premium brands. Although it doesn’t tear as neatly as some other tapes, it comes at a lower price and is available in various colors and prints.
This budget-friendly tape isn't particularly trustworthy; it's tough to tear and tends to adhere to itself easily. While it boasts the same thickness as Duck Original, it feels flimsier.
Despite its high price, Gorilla Clear Repair isn't technically duct tape. It's a thick clear vinyl tape meant for temporary fixes, including repairing tents or air mattresses. I utilized it for protecting my mountain bike paintwork, and though it performs well, the serrated edges can lift over time.
The Duck Ultimate tape suited my vacuum hose repair perfectly. It's strong yet thinner than Gorilla tape, which allowed it to conform better to the hose. The temporary fix I implemented six months ago is still holding up!
After enduring rough treatment—including accidental drops in water—my Braun ear thermometer malfunctioned. To fix it, I used a strip of Gorilla Tape to help reset the connection, and it worked like a charm.
Choosing between Gorilla tape and Duck Ultimate is tough; Gorilla is thicker and stronger, yet that added thickness may not suit all tasks. I keep a compact roll of Gorilla tape handy for many temporary fixes. Both high-quality tapes are exceptionally worthy of having in your toolkit.
